What areas and conditions do you scan?
Diagnostic Ultrasound can be used to identify injuries to muscle, tendon, ligament, bone and nerves.
Diagnostic Ultrasound of the foot and ankle can help identify:
Tendon issues of the achilles, tibialis posterior and other tendons. It is also sensitive in identifying tenosynovitis, para-tendon issues, tendon rupture and dislocation issues. It can also assist in the diagnosis of torn ligaments of the foot and ankle, plantar fasciitis, Morton’s neuroma, stress fractures, and plantar plate injuries.
Diagnostic Ultrasound of the knee can help identify:
Tendinopathies of the patella and quadriceps tendon, quadriceps and hamstring strains and tears, some arthritic changes, ITB syndrome, tears of collateral ligaments, bursitis, fat pad issues and much more.
Diagnostic Ultrasound of the hip can help identify:
Bursitis of the hip, tendinopathies, muscle strains and tears, snapping hip flexor phenomenon, and sport related hip pain.
Diagnostic ultrasound of the shoulder can help identify conditions such as:
Rotator cuff injuries and tendinopathies, bursitis, shoulder instability and impingement. It can also be useful to identify injuries to the acromioclavicular (AC) joint. Or conditions such as adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder)
Diagnostic Ultrasound of the elbow, wrist and hand can help identify:
Tendon issues such as Golfer’s or Tennis Elbow. It can also show fractures to the elbow, wrist or hand. Ultrasound can also help identify less common issues such as nerve entrapment.

In your initial appointment, you will be asked a serious of question to understand your issue. A thorough physical assessment will be carried out. An ultrasound examination will then be performed.
The clinician will be able to talk you through your dynamic scan.
If you don’t have appropriate clothing don’t worry we have a selection of premium apparel such as t-shirts and shirts from Castore. Please ask a member of staff for assistance.
Furthermore, a written report will be carefully constructed of your assessment and sent to you by secure email encryption.
The physiotherapist that carries out your ultrasound is an advanced scope practitioner. That means you will be having a standard physiotherapy assessment enhanced by using an ultrasound scan to inform our decision making.
Furthermore, the physiotherapist that will be carrying out your assessment and scan has a BSc in Physiotherapy and will have completed an extra qualification with a PgCert in Sonography and is a part of The Royal College of Radiologists. Meaning you are in more than capable hands.

The short answer is yes. Diagnostic ultrasound has no radiation and is a pain-free non-invasive procedure.
Unfortunately, there are some things we simply do not scan. Such as unusual lumps or bumps, the spinal region and the pelvis.
If we encounter an incidental finding then a specialist referral will be made to your GP on the same day.
Meet Our Team
Dan is a highly decorated and accomplished physiotherapist. He has undertaken extra qualifications to earn the title of an extended scope practitioner.
Dan is also a Musculoskeletal (MSK) Sonographer, and Independent Prescriber, working one day a week within an NHS radiology clinic and an active part of the multidisciplinary team for ultrasound constantly working on his expertise in ultrasound diagnostics.
