Clinical Assessment

In your initial consultation we will take a detailed history of your presenting condition. This will guide our musculoskeletal  screening, where we will perform a battery of tests to help with diagnosing your condition. This will guide the process as to where to conduct our diagnostic ultrasound.

Accurate Diagnostic Ultrasound

Clinical evidence suggests that diagnostic ultrasound alongside  our clinical assessment enhances our clinical decision making in making a more accurate diagnosis. In using diagnostic ultrasound we can potentially illustrate the pain driver with your condition. 

Report of Findings

Your assessing clinician will be able to provide a detailed report of the findings from both your ultrasound scan and musculoskeletal assessment.  A management plan will be discussed with you, this may include physiotherapy interventions alongside injection therapy to get the optimum results.

Injection Therapy

 If clinically indicated an injection may be indicated.  The potential benefits and risks will be discussed with you for you to make an informed decision. if consent is gained, a ultrasound guided injection will be performed. Aftercare advice will be provided to you and a follow up appointment will be arranged to check your progress.

Each Injection Plays an Individual Role

The injection therapy indicated for you, will be specifically based on the desired outcome. All of our injections are ultrasound guided to give you accurate and targeted pain relief. For example, a steroid injection may be used for pain and inflammation relief. While those suffering from osteoarthritis joint pain may benefit from a hyaluronic acid based products. The treatment recommended and provided will be catered specifically for your condition.

Steroid Injection

Steroid injections are a synthetic version of the bodies own anti-inflammatory ingredients. Injecting directly into a painful region can help reduce pain, swelling and swelling. Steroid injections are also a treatment for inflamed joints, tendon sheaths and chronic joint pain conditions

Advanced Procedure

Advanced procedures are reserved for processes that involves more technical speciality. This is may include but not limited to hydrodilatation procedures for frozen shoulder or tendon sheath injections.

Ostenil Plus Injection

Ostenil Plus is a hyaluronic acid solution developed specifically for the treatment of osteoarthritis. The addition of Mannitol in the solution increases the efficiency and elongates the benefits of Ostenil Plus within the joint.

Durolane Injection

A Durolane injection is a purified form of hyaluronic acid and used to treat osteoarthritis. Durolane can provide increased shock absorption and lubricating the affected joint. Therefore reducing pain and increasing your function.

The answers to your most frequent questions

Will i feel discomfort with my injection?

Some people may experience some discomfort for 24-48 hours following an injection. If you do experience an abnormal reaction this please contact us on 0207 870 0313

How long does it take for the injection to take affect?

All our injections play different roles in the management of your condition.

How long should i stay off sporting activities?

For the injection to have the optimum benefits, we suggest no sporting activities for up to 7-10 days, and to ease yourself back in gradually. 

CAN I DRIVE FOLLOWING AN INJECTION?

Although you should not experience pain following an injection that would impede someones driving, it is recommended that someone drives you home or take public transport as an alternative.

CAN I TAKE PAIN RELIEF MEDICATION?

If desired you can take normal pain relief medication such as Paracetamol. However, we suggest you do not take anti-inflammatories. You may place an ice or heat pad on the desired area should you wish.

How long do steroid injections take to work?

Evidence suggests that it take between 3-5 days before the steroid injection starts to work. They work by reprogramming our body cells to stop producing inflammatory cells at the site of the injection, allowing our body to produce its own anti-inflammatory mechanism. The full effects of the injection may not be felt up to 1-2 weeks post injeciton.

Are there any side effects from the injection?

Although side effects are very rare, they may include: 

  • Steroid flare: this can occur in 25% of patients, where the area becomes red, swollen and painful. Use anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen.
  • Bleeding: although rare this should stop with pressure and a plaster.
  • Skin Changes: this is very rare, 2-4% of patients may experience pigment changes and photosensitivity of the injection site.
  • Infection: this is rare and may occur in 1 in 25,000 patients.

Meet Our Team

Dan is a highly decorated and accomplished physiotherapist. He has undertaken extra qualifications to earn the title of an extended scope practitioner.

Dan is also a Musculoskeletal (MSK) Sonographer, and Independent Prescriber, working one day a week within an NHS radiology clinic and an active part of the multidisciplinary team for ultrasound constantly working on his expertise in ultrasound diagnostics and injection therapy.
