How Arthrosamid® Works?

Arthrosamid® is the first and only permanent injectable implant that integrates with the knee’s synovial tissue,4 forming a scaffold that softens and increases tissue elasticity. This leads to decreased joint stiffness, reduced pain, and improved knee function.

Proven Results

  • Over 20 years of research and development.
  • Safe and effective for its intended use, even five years post-treatment.
  • Around 1,200,000 syringes of 2.5% iPAAG have been made for human use.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Arthrosamid?

Arthrosamid is a polyacrylamide hydrogel designed for intra‑articular use in knee osteoarthritis. It aims to provide cushioning and reduce pain. It is non‑biodegradable and is injected under ultrasound guidance.

Is it a single injection?

It is always delivered via 6 x 1ml per knee as a single injection.

How long should i stay off sporting activities?

For the injection to have the optimum benefits, we suggest no sporting activities for up 48 hours, 14 days post-treatment start introducing rehab gradually under the guidance of your clinician.

Do I need antibiotics?

Yes — an oral antibiotic is required on the day of the procedure. We will supply this and confirm the exact dose and timing as part of your prep checklist.

Who can’t have Arthrosamid® injections?

Arthrosamid® should not be injected:

  • If an active skin disease or infection is present at or near the injection site
  • If the joint is infected or severely inflamed
  • If a degradable intra-articular injectable such as hyaluronic acid is present, it must be expected to be absorbed according to manufacturer’s information for the specific product, before injection with Arthrosamid®
  • If the patient has previously received treatment with a different non-absorbable injectable/implant
  • If the patient has received a knee alloplasty or has any foreign material in the knee
  • If the patient has undergone knee arthroscopy within the last 6 months
  • In haemophilia patients or in patients in uncontrolled anticoagulant treatment.

CAN I TAKE PAIN RELIEF MEDICATION?

If desired you can take normal pain relief medication such as Paracetamol. You can take anti-inflammatories. However, we suggest you do not take anti-inflammatories. You may place an ice or heat pad on the desired area should you wish.

How do i know if i am eligible?

We’ll review your history, prior imaging, medications, and perform an ultrasound assessment. If needed we may liaise with your GP/consultant.
